MAF2011 Seminar Fundraiser

On Sunday, November 13, 2011 the Martial Arts Foundation will host a series of training seminars as a fundraiser at Joseph C. Carter Park located at 1500 W. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311.

KIDS SEMINAR (ages 10 & under)

., 6th Degree Black Belt began his martial arts training at age five, studying Uechi-Ryu for almost two years. At seven, he trained in Nisei Goju-Ryu with Hanshi Bill Wendell and Sensei Robert Escoto. and for extended periods of time with Shihan Frank Ruiz, cross-trained with Master Moses Powell and Master Rex Lee. Collazo competed extensively in open competition from age 8 through 16, winning state and national titles in weapons, form and fighting. He competed for the world title at the U.S. Karate Association’s World Championships in 1984, and was the only competitor to win the title in all three divisions. He later competed in the A.A.U. Junior Olympic Games of 1991, winning a gold, silver, and bronze medal. Collazo earned degrees from Cornell University (B.A. in Asian Studies and Religious Studies, ‘94) and Washington University (M.A. in East Asian Studies, ‘00). He lived
in Hiroshima, Japan for two years (1995-1997) where he practiced Shito-Ryu and trained with Sensei Masafumi Matsuki in the art of kendo, in which he currently holds a Yon-dan (4th degree). Shihan William Collazo will instruct the Level 1 Kids training session ages 10 & under at 9:00 a.m. Fee is $20.00 donations ($15 MAF members). .

GENERAL SELF-DEFENSE SEMINAR

, 8th degree black belt in the art of Sanuces Jujitsu under the late Dr. Moses Powell, will be instructing self-defense techniques at 11:00 AM during the Level 2 training session.  Prof. Denson has extensive training in various styles of martial arts such as Karate, Jujitsu, Kung fu, Kenpo, boxing and stick fighting. The seminar will cater to beginner, intermediate and advanced students ages from 11 to adult.
Participants fee: $25 donation ($20 MAF members).
 

WOMEN'S SELF-DEFENSE   (flyer)

, 5th degree black belt in the art of Goju Ryu is a senior student of Grand Master William A. Liquori. He begin his training in 1974 with Master Ro in Tae Kwon Do and soon changed his training to Goju Ryu. Sensei Macchione will conduct the Women's Self-defense course at 2:00 PM for the Level 3 training session. The course will focus on c
ommon sense tactics; How to be aware of your surroundings; Things women can do to prevent an attack; How to make weapons out of everyday accessories; How to identify an attacker; What to say to Law Enforcement; and the 10 most common attacks and how to escape from them. Participants "Special" Fee: $10 donation.
