Free Karate Tournaments is one of MAF’s popular events allowing competitors of all ages and backgrounds to partake in positive martial arts activities without the financial pressures associated with other martial art organizations. It further provides students the opportunity to be rewarded through the spirit of martial arts competition and positive role models. Since the early 1980’s there has been an increase in tournament cost. Today, anyone with karate tournament experience can expect to pay exorbitant entry fees as competitors and spectators. This is not necessarily a bad thing. However, increasing costs clearly makes it difficult for many desiring families to acquire the benefits and rewards available from these events. Karate tournaments allow students to experience healthy competition through individual and group performance. It allows competitors the opportunity to develop good sportsmanship, fair play and develop athletic skills.
Registration for MAF events is simple. You may use our online registration process or (in most cases) door registration is available. Official MAF forms may also be available by mail, e-mail or found at a participating martial arts supply stores. There is a minimum standard(129) divisions offered at each free tournament consisting of Empty hand Kata/Forms; Self-defense; Weapons; Kumite/Sparring and Kendo. Trophies and/or metals are awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of each division.Founder/President Larry L. Mabson is making an effort to generate the spirit of modern day martial arts by using MAF to allow more families to get involved without the financial burden associated with other martial arts associations. With the belief that the more people are involved in good martial arts this increases the chance for more men, women and children to make a valuable contribution to society. To that end, it is important that the MAF environment demonstrate all that is good in martial arts.To Sensei Mabson the meaning of karate-do (the way of karate) is not limited to just the physical techniques of punching and kicking. It is the essence of one's total being - recognizing the need for a strong mind and body with a positive spirit. These elements allow the art to survive. In order to continue this growth our goal is to share this experience with as many individuals as possible and insure that courtesy, respect and honor is passed on to our youth. The possibility of this happening is exciting. That’s what makes MAF tick.
